Young woman flees blazing flat

FIREFIGHTERS tackled a blaze that destroyed a bedroom in the early hours of this morning.

The blaze broke out at a flat in Britton Street, Gillingham, and crews went in wearing breathing apparatus, fearing somebody may be trapped inside.

The occupant, a 26-year-old woman, had got out safely but the bedroom was wrecked by the blaze.

The fire began in a mattress and police and fire investigators are now trying to establish the cause.
