A MOTORIST died after the car he was driving crashed into a field off the Thanet Way at St Nicholas, near Margate.

The black Peugeot 206 was discovered overturned in a field off the London-bound carriageway near the Roman Galley pub at about 2.30am on Friday by officers on patrol.

The victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene, lived at Whitstable and was in his 20s. He has not yet been formally identified.

Police are anxious to speak to anyone who saw the black Peugeot being driven on the Thanet Way. Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Neil Fuller on 01843 222124.

The coroner is being informed and an inquest will be held.
