An 81-year-old woman was shoved to the ground and robbed in what police have dubbed a "callous crime".

The pensioner was attacked in an alleyway in Westwood Road, Broadstairs, between 1.20pm and 1.35pm on Tuesday.

She was walking towards the ASDA supermarket when she was pulled to the floor and her bag -- which contained £30 and her bus pass -- was snatched.

The woman suffered a number of cuts and grazes and an injury to her knee.

The suspect, who ran away after the robbery, was said to be a slightly-built man, wearing a blue top and grey trousers.

DC Roz Friend is investigating the robbery, and said: "This is a callous crime which has left the victim in a great deal of distress. We have already spoken to a number of witnesses and I am confident that others may have important information that will help us further. I would like to ask them to come forward so we can arrest this cowardly, heartless criminal."
