BADLY DAMAGED: the lorry and the van

A COLLISION between a lorry, a van and a car could easily have resulted in yet another addition to the long list of fatalities and serious injuries on Medway's notorious A228.

But police reported only one minor casualty in the crash at one of the road's most accident-prone junctions yesterday.

The accident resulted in the front of the Scania lorry being smashed, the Volkswagen van being mangled at the back and the Toyota people carrier being wrapped around a lamppost.

A police spokesman said: "Thankfully we only had one slight injury. One person suffered whiplash, shock and bruising and was attended to by an ambulance crew.''

The accident was at about 10.30am on the Ratcliffe Highway at Hoo near the junction of Bells Lane and Dux Court Road. The A228 is considered Medway's most dangerous road, having claimed 26 lives in the past 18 years.

The Medway Today newspaper launched a campaign to make it safe in 2000 when there were three double deaths.
