Two women hurt in head-on smash

AN ELDERLY woman was airlifted to hospital today after a head-on collision between two cars at Shepherdswell near Dover.

Two elderly female drivers, who both live locally but have not been named, collided on Coxhill Road near Hopewood Farm.

Firefighters took 40 minutes to free the women from the cars, a BMW 316 and a Renault Megane using hydraulic cutting equipment. Both women were taken to the Kent and Canterbury Hospital, one in the Kent Air Ambulance. They suffered from cuts, bruises and possible fractures.

Two fire crews from Dover and Whitfield attended the scene. The road was closed for several hours while fire crews cleared up the area and police carried out investigations into the crash. The A2 exit road to Shepherdswell was also closed.
