Traders speak out on traffic chaos

NEW short term measures are needed to resolve the traffic gridlock in Whitstable town centre according to traders representative, Mark Woollard.

He was speaking after city councillors decided to re-investigate the viability of a one-way system in Oxford Street and the High Street.

But Mr Woollard, who is president of the town’s chamber of commerce, says that while he agrees with the idea, it could take years to be implemented.

He wants the council to 'tweak’ the existing traffic arrangements, particularly over parking and loading, suggested by its own highways engineer.
