Thugs attack German student

A GERMAN student was attacked hours after he arrived in Broadstairs on an educational trip. The 15-year-old had settled with his host family and was exploring the town with a friend when a gang of teenagers in the High Street approached him.

A police spokesman said: “He was asked the time and when he replied in broken English, he was asked his nationality. He was then set upon and punched several times.

“His injuries included bruising and lumps to the back of his head. It was an unprovoked assault and can hardly have painted a good image of the area for the boy who had only been in Broadstairs for a few hours.”

The student was being cared for by his host family.

Four youths were later being questioned by police in connection with the assault that happened at 7.25pm on Saturday.
