A cannabis factory was uncovered at a warehouse in Grace Road, Sheerness

Around 1,000 cannabis plants have been discovered by police – after a call about a break-in.

Officers discovered the cannabis factory in a warehouse in Sheerness yesterday.

Police were called to the premises, in Grace Road off New Road, after a report of a burglary.

The factory is now being dismantled and the plants destroyed.

Insp Noel Stanley, from Kent Police, said: "This was a substantial factory, designed for producing cannabis on an industrial scale.

"We have struck a strong blow to those involved in cannabis production as we have destroyed a significant number of plants and a factory that would have cost a lot of money to set up.

"We are now turning our attention to using evidence that was left at the scene to help identify the suspects. I would appeal to anyone who has any information on this production to call us and assist us with our enquiries."

Anyone with information is urged to phone Kent Police on 101 or Kent Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
