If you want to sit your driving test, wait until a Tuesday in June.

According to figures released to Kentonline from the Driving Standards Agency, that is the luckiest combination to pass your test in Kent.

On average 136.25 learners pass their test on that day in Kent test centres.

Other lucky days include Tuesdays in November (134.75), Tuesdays in April (130.2) and Thursdays in November (126.8).

Overall Tuesdays see more passes awarded than on any other day of the week, according to the figures obtained under the Freedom of Information Act.

The statistics are based on average pass rates at test centres in the county from October 1 2007 to September 30 2008.

The unluckiest day – barring all Saturdays which have fewer tests – is a Friday in August, with only 68.6 passes awarded on average.

Other unlucky days include a Friday in March (69.67), a Friday in December (73) and a Friday in February (76).

However, driving instructor Peter Clarke of Northfleet near Gravesend said hard work and a bit of luck are more important than the day you pick.

“I think it varies from person to person really, and the luck on the day.

“Another driver could do something silly which fazes you and the examiner might say you should have been able to deal with that.

“There are times when people won’t stop to let you through a gap and there are times when they will, but I haven’t found a particular day better at any time during my 20 year career.

“When it comes to passing examiners are looking for a level of confidence, competence and safety. If you have good coordination that will help you pass. The rest is down to practice.”

The figures were compiled from the number of passes awarded at following tests centres:

Ashford, Belvedere, Bexleyheath, Broadstairs, Canterbury, Erith MPTC, Folkestone, Gillingham L & LGV, Gravesend, Herne Bay, Herne Bay MPTC, Maidstone, Sevenoaks, Sidcup, Tunbridge Wells and West Wickham.
