Sisters in road crash horror

A 43-year-old woman from Kent has died and her sister seriously injured after a road crash in East Sussex.

The incident happened on the A259 at Guldeford, near Rye, and involved the two female pedestrians and two cars.

The woman who died has been identified as Alison Phillips, from New Romney. Her 35-year-old sister, from Lydd, received serious injuries.

Police say a BMW car being driven eastwards by a 30-year-old man from Camber, near Rye, struck the two women who were thrown into the path of a Volkswagon Golf being driven westwards by a 25-year-old woman from Chatham.

The road was closed for five hours while officers from the East Sussex road policing department conducted an initial investigation. The trageddy occurred at about 6.25pm on Saturday.

Sgt Paul Masterson, based at Bexhill, is asking witnesses to contact him on 0845 60 79 999, quoting Operation Garner.
