Gillingham striker Simeon Jackson is hoping for a call-up to Canada’s Gold Cup squad after making a scoring debut on the international scene at the weekend.

Just a week after netting Gillingham’s promotion winning goal at Wembley the 22-year-old striker scored the only goal of the game on Saturday as Canada beat Cyprus 1-0 in an international friendly on the Mediterranean island.

Jackson (pictured right), who ended the domestic campaign with 21 goals, was hoping to impress Canadian coach Stephen Hart ahead of this summer’s CONCACAF Gold Cup finals in America and after playing 81 minutes and scoring the winner he’s now hoping to get the nod for the finals.

"For me the goal was a great confidence boost," he said. "To come in and get my first cap and to get the goal as well was a good boost and I’m just looking forward to what’s to come.

"The Gold Cup is the next thing and hopefully if I get selected then I’ll go out there and show what I can do."

Canada start their Gold Cup campaign against Jamaica in Los Angeles on July 3 before playing El Salvador (July 7) and Costa Rica (July 10).
