Scouting Centenary: diary of events

HERE is a useful reference for all the year's events involving the Kent Scouts.

JANUARY

27:

* Extreme Survival - day to test the skills of Scouts to the limit.

FEBRUARY

22:

* Founders Day - celebrating the 150th birthday of Lord Robert Baden-Powell, a national service takes place at Westminster Abbey. Attended by Scouts and Guides from across the UK.

24:

* Circus Skills Badge

* Sittingbourne District Founders Day Ball

* Tunbridge Wells District Gala Dinner

* Kent Founders Day Celebration - Canterbury Cathedral hosts an evening event of principal benefit to adult leaders and Lay Scouters.

MARCH

16:

* Comic Relief, Red Nose Day - Scouts will be involved in numerous fundraising events.

17:

* Adult Pioneer Instructors Course

25:

* Thanet District Beating the Bounds

APRIL

9 - 11:

* Thanet Gang Show

10 - 14:

* Maidstone Gang Show

21:

* Scouts Premiership Day Out - a proposed community football day at Charlton Athletic Football Club inclusive of the opportunity to watch the match against Sheffield United.

22:

* St. George's Day

28:

* Scoutathon - running, cycling, shooting, and archery competition, plus the opportunity to gain the Master at Arms badge.

MAY

12:

* Kent Cubs Big Day Out - medieval day at Bodium Castle and trip on Kent & East Sussex Steam Railway. Cost £8.50 (tbc).

26:

* Romney District BBQ & Beacon Lighting

* Centenary Camps - District-led camps bringing together as many local young people as possible to celebrate 2007. Thanet hold their camp from May 25 to 28. Other camps held by Ashford, Dartford, Faversham, Strood, Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells.

JUNE

16 - 17:

* Gilwell Fundays - this event for Beavers & Cubs is held at Gilwell Park, Chingford. It's an activity day that brings a wide range of activities to the younger sections.

23:

* MegaGig - held at the Manchester Evening News Arena, this celebratory Rock and Urban music festival features current popular artists. Aimed at Scout, Explorer and Network members. Tickets £20 (can only be bought through Ticket Master).

22 - 24:

* Maidstone South Mayhem 2007 - Hamlet Wood is the venue for this weekend of extreme events.

30:

* Totally Wild 2007 - An African Adventure & Music Festival. Explore the wild animals of Africa with interactive workshops, meet and greet animal keepers, take a safari trail or just get up close to some of our planets most dangerous animals. The evening showcases a three hour Pop Festival featuring the major Pop artists of 2007.

JULY

7 - 8:

* Gilwell 24 - This fourth event is for Explorer Scouts and Senior Section Guides.

21 - 22:

* New Romney District Camp

21:

* New Romney Leaders Centenary Lunch

26 - 28:

* Brownsea Island Patrol Leaders Camp - a centenary camp on Brownsea Island to celebrate the 100 years of Scouting specifically for Patrol Leaders. The camp follows on from the Diamond camp in 1967. The camp will take place just prior to the Sunrise Camp. This is an invitation only event and Kent will have at least two PL's present at this event.

30 - August 4:

* Brownsea Replica Camp - for the duration of the World Scout Jamboree, two replica camps of four and a half days each will run either side of August 1. Replicating the first camp in 1907.

27 - August 8:

* 21st World Scout Jamboree - 40,000 Scouts will camp, live and work together at Hylands Park, Chelmsford for twelve days of celebration and friendship. Three Kent Scout units will attend.

28 - August 4:

* Sittingbourne SamJam - a celebration camp at Bexon Lane.

AUGUST

1:

* Brownsea Island - an exclusive celebration breakfast held for 200 paying guests.

* Kent Sunrise, Dover Castle - to celebrate the dawn of a new Century of Scouting, Kent Scouts will hold an events at Dover Castle.

* Gilwell Sunrise Adventure - Scouts and Explorers join Hylands Park and Brownsea Island for this celebratory event.

3:

* Maidstone East Camp

8 - 11:

* Home Hospitality - Kent will provide Ho Ho for BSWE and Maltese Scouts (possibly a third unit) this will be group based and Kent Explorers will be invited to join in the fun.

26 and 28:

* Thanet District Leaders Camp

SEPTEMBER

7 - 9:

* 81st Gilwell Reunion - adult members of the movement come together for a weekend of fun and celebration.

15 - 16:

* The BIG Event - Kent Scouts celebration event held at the Detling show Including pot holing, aerial displays, museum of Scouting, and shooting of all kinds.

OCTOBER

6:

* County Football Competition

20 - 21:

* Centenary Jamboree on the Air

* Centenary Jamboree on the Internet - October 20/21

27:

* Thanet Gala Centenary Ball - Winter Gardens - October 27

NOVEMBER

10:

* Kent Scouts Bonfire Bash

24:

* Festival of Scouting - a matinee and evening show to be held at the 02 Arena.
