River death man named by police

The man whose body was recovered from the River Medway last week has been named as 31-year-old Sandip Singh.

It is thought that Mr Singh, from Chatham, may have jumped from Rochester Bridge.

Coastguards recovered Mr Singh’s body from the river last Thursday morning.

It was spotted by a member of public about 8.30am on Temple Marshes, Strood, opposite Rochester Esplanade.

The previous evening, starting at about 7.30pm, a three-hour search was conducted after Mr Singh was reported missing.

An RAF Sea King helicopter from RAF Wattisham in Suffolk, Sheerness inshore lifeboat and Medway Coastguard all joined the search after one of his family became concerned and called the emergency services.

A police helicopter also joined in the search.

Police are not treating his death as suspicious.
