The identity of two countries who will base themselves in Kent for the London Olympics will be unveiled later.

Representatives of the two nations – said to have strong prospects of winning medals at the 2012 games – will sign a formal agreement at County Hall committing them to use facilities in the county for training and preparation camps.

Kent County Council hopes the agreement will prove a much-needed boost to its efforts to capitalise on the London Olympics and its efforts to secure a long-lasting sporting legacy for the county.

It hopes the presence of elite athletes, using local sports venues and centres, will enable strong links to be built between international athletes and communities.

In March 2008, Kent was recognised for having the most venues in the country approved as potential pre-games training camps for Olympians and Paralympians.

It has eight out of 35 potential venues in the region for Paralympians.
