Family and friends will gather to remember master baker Leslie Horn at 3.30pm on Saturday, June 21, at Broadstairs’ Vere Road allotments.

Mr Horn – who died last October, aged 85 – liked nothing better than tending his dahlias at the site, one of his favourite spots.

He was well known for his baking skills and as a character around Broadstairs and St Peter’s where he lived with wife Betty and daughter Janet. His sons John and Peter and his grandchildren all live locally.

The Horn’s opened St Peter’s Cottage Tea Rooms in 1965 and went on to take over The Tea Caddy in Broadstairs High Street.

Novelty cakes were Mr Horn’s speciality and his skilled creations included a bust of former Prime Minister Sir Edward Heath, ships, dogs and a biscuit Wedgwood barrel. He received many accolades for his skills over the years.
