Prison inmate unearths wartime bomb

AN UNEXPLODED Second World War bomb was taken away from the Isle of Sheppey this morning to enable a bomb disposal team to carry out a controlled explosion.

A prisoner working on the farm outside Standford Hill Prison yesterday afternoon discovered the bomb while digging up rubble.

The area was evacuated and the bomb squad called to inspect the device.

The decision to remove the bomb from the island was taken this morning.
