THREE men have been arrested in connection with an attempted ram-raid at a Kent supermarket in the early hours of this morning.

The men used a mechanical digger to try and remove a cash mahcine from the Sainsbury's store in High Street, New Romney, at around 3.15am.

Police officers were nearby when the digger was driven towards the supermarket's wall.

During the arrests two officers suffered broken ankles. One also suffered a broken shin and may require surgery. Several police cars were damaged.

Police say they are searching for a fourth man in connection with the incident.
