Peanut the cat loses eye in gun attack

Sorry, this video asset has been removed.

A horrified pet owner has condemned the “evil” thug who shot her cat through the eye with an air rifle pellet.

Naomi Jeremiah’s three-year-old tortoiseshell, Peanut, has now had to have her eye removed by a vet.

She was shot close to her home in St Andrew’s Walk, Allhallows, on Tuesday, September 9.

Peanut somehow managed to crawl back to her home, where she collapsed in a pool of blood on Mrs Jeremiah’s kitchen floor.

The pellet went straight through Peanut’s eye and lodged in her cheek bone, shattering it.

Mrs Jeremiah, 27, said: “It was horrific. She managed to pull herself through the cat flap and lay in a pool on blood on the kitchen floor.

“The vet told us her eye was so badly damaged, there was no option but to remove it.

“They cannot remove the bullet at the moment as it is lodged firmly between her carotid artery and jugular. So surgery would be very risky.”

"It’s been horrendous. I feel sick about it. Peanut is a lovely, defenceless cat. Who would do such a thing ? Whoever did it is just sick.“

PC Keri Forster from Medway Police, said: "We take incidents like this very seriously and are carrying out door to door inquiries in the area.

"This is an isolated attack and incidents like this remain very rare."
