A man spotted urinating in an Ashford alleyway was given a mop and bucket - and told to clean it up!

Police ordered the offender to remove the offending mess, and his two pals who had open alcohol bottles were ordered to return them to the pub they had recently left.

All three were banned from the watering hole for three months after the incident in Church Yard Passage at 10.30pm on Saturday.

Inspector Andrew Judd said: "I hope these young men have learned a lesson that their behaviour will not be tolerated.

"Urinating outside people's homes is unacceptable and it should be very clear to anyone socialising in Ashford that they cannot drink from a bottle or glass in the street."

Members of the joint Kent Police and Ashford Borough Council Community Safety Unit have been working in the area, beset by anti-social behaviour problems.

Only last year the passage, next to St Mary's church, saw a "bouncer" on patrol.

It followed a meeting of worried residents with councillors, council officers, police and Kent County Council.

Residents faced severe anti-social behaviour - including yobs urinating through their letterboxes.

Other measures discussed include new streetlights gating off the alleyway.
