Murder probe after screwdriver is embedded in man's head

DETECTIVES are continuing a murder investigation after a 29-year-old man died in hospital following a street brawl.

Police were called at about 11pm on Saturday following reports of two groups of young men involved in a fight in East Street at Bromley.

On arrival they found a man with serious head injuries. The victim, David Rodway, from Orpington, had a screwdriver embedded in his head.

He was taken to the Princess Royal Hospital in Farnborough where he died on Monday morning.

Officers believe the altercation occurred following an argument earlier on outside the Walkabout pub on Bromley High Street.

It is believed the two groups exchanged words before separating. It is thought they then met again in East Street - about 200 yards away - when the fight occurred.

Two men arrested in connection with the inquiry have been bailed to return to a south London police station next month.

Police arrested two more men in connection with the investigation, on Tuesday. They are currently in custody.

Any witnesses or anyone with information should contact the incident room on 020 8345 3775; if you wish to remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
