Mugger grabs pensioner's purse and bag

A WOMAN in her 80s fell to the ground when a mugger snatched her handbag in the street.

The incident happened while the pensioner was walking along Laureate Close, Margate, at the junction with Northdown Park Avenue, at about 2.15pm on Saturday, March 4.

Police spokeswoman Gianna Pollero said: "The woman heard footsteps behind her and then the man grabbed her handbag from her shoulder. She fell to the floor and suffered bruising.

"The handbag is a grey, oblong, plastic type with handles and it contained the victim’s purse."

The offender is described as 5ft 8in tall and of medium build. He was wearing a dark grey hooded, fleece top.
