Man stuck in lift had heart condition

A middle-aged couple were trapped in a lift for more than two hours while fire-fighters tried to free them.

The man and woman were working in a building at Quayside, Chatham Maritime, last night when the lift jammed, trapping them between floors.

A crew from Strood fire station arrived shortly after 7pm and attempted to move the lift.

Paramedics were called to the scene as a precaution because the man had a known heart condition.

The couple were freed shortly after 9pm with the help of a lift technician.

Fire fighter Phil Harris said: "When we arrived they had already been trapped for 20 minutes.

"They were stuck between two floors and it was far too dangerous for them to try and climb out.

"We called for a technician and about an hour later he arrived and managed to get them free."
