A Swanley man died after falling into the River Thames from the Woolwich Ferry yesterday morning.

Police have not officially named the man, but he is believed to be crewman Ben Woollacott, 19.

Friends have been leaving Facebook tributes to him.

Ben is believed to have been hit by the vessel’s propeller and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “Police were called by The London Ambulance service at 6.10am on Wednesday, August 3 regarding a man being brought ashore from the Thames by the coastguard.”

A post mortem was due to be held yesterday.
