M2 crash driver fights for life

A DRIVER is fighting for his life after his van overturned on the M2 early on Sunday.

The accident happened on the coastbound carriageway near Junction 4, the Gillingham turn-off, at 3am.

The carriageway was closed until about 9am and traffic diverted off at Junction 4. A police forensic investigation team was at the scene gathering evidence.

The man, who is believed to be 32 and from the Sittingbourne area, was initially taken to Medway Maritime Hospital with serious head injuries.

Yesterday afternoon he was transferred to a London hospital with life-threatening head and neck injuries.

Police said his white Mercedes Sprinter van apparently hit the central reservation and overturned.

Anyone who saw the crash or the van just before the accident is asked to call the Kent Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 798538
