A 17-year-old boy admitted killing a hedgehog by kicking it more than 20 feet into the air and throwing it several times.

Magistrates in Margate heard how Leo Curtis was showing off in front of his friends.

Curtis, of Selbourne Road, Margate, was given a 10-month referral order and ordered to pay £500 costs.

RSPCA inspector Dave Grant described the incident, which took place in Dunstan Avenue, Westgate, on June 22, as "a despicable act of cruelty".
