Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler will warn his team not to under-estimate Northampton following a midweek scouting mission.

The side facing Gills on Saturday have lost their last five League 2 matches and sit second from bottom in the table.

Hessenthaler (pictured) watched their Carling Cup match on Tuesday against Championship side Ipswich at Portman Road and, despite their 3-1 defeat, the Gills boss was impressed with what he saw.

He said: "I’m surprised where they are, especially after watching them.

"I think they are in a false position and they’ll be looking at us knowing that we haven’t won away for many months. They were right in the game on Tuesday and they scored first. In the end, Ipswich’s quality showed through.

"They’ve had problems with injuries and suspensions as well and it won’t be easy. We have to put on a performance like we did at Port Vale and hopefully we can get a good result."
