Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler remains in bullish mood ahead of this weekend’s home clash with Torquay.

The Gills ended a five-game League 2 losing streak with a goalless draw at home against Rotherham on Tuesday night.

It leaves the club eight points off the play-off positions but Hessenthaler said: "Eight points, game in hand, it could be five if we win that.

"It’s been doom and gloom and we are still not happy with where we are but we have to put that behind us and stay positive. We have shown that in the last two games.

"We have to go on a run and win games if we are to get anywhere near the play-offs. We’ve got 16 games left, that’s plenty of points to play for. Anything can happen."

The pressure has been mounting on Hessenthaler to improve results after the club slipped into the bottom half of the table.

Hessenthaler said: "The pressure is always on and there is more pressure now on Saturday.

"We need to get another result and make sure (Tuesday’s result) is the start of us kicking on."
