Students moved on after protest outside bank's London HQ

Camp for Climate Action campaigners have staged the first of two days of mass action.

The HQ of the Royal Bank of Scotland, an agro-fuel depot in Essex and Gatwick Airport were targeted.

Protesters chained themselves to the roof of the Vopak terminal in Thurrock, shortly after 8am, with a group of thers blocking lorries from entering or leaving the site. At least eight people have been arrested.

A 35 foot banner was unfurled from the top of one of the site's biggest oil containers.

Protester Dean Rivers,said: "Companies like Greenergy and Tesco who use Thurrock are profiteering out of the rush to biofuels causing food price rises, hunger for millions, ecosystem destruction and accelerated climate change.

This protest ended at lunchtime with all activists now believed to be off the site.

Campaigners meanwhile locked themselves to rails and dropped banners at Gatwick Airport in a protest over short haul flights.

Students prevented access to the Royal Bank of Scotland HQ in Central London with a spectacular mass “death.”

Security staff stepped in after 15 protesters lay down on the pavement at the entrance to the Liverpool Street building.

The bank was targetted over alleged support financial support for fossil-fuel projects.

This ended peacefully with no arrests.
