Firefighters still at scene of Lyminge warehouse fire

Firefighters remain at the scene of a large fire at a
furniture workshop in Folkestone.

The blaze broke out on Wednesday afternoon and has almost
destroyed the workshop.

On Saturday morning, Kent Fire and Rescue's Urban Search
and Rescue Team are securing the building so crews can reach small
pockets of fire which are still burning.

At its height 60 firefighters from across Kent were battling the
blaze along North Lyminge Lane, near Folkestone.

It started just before 1pm Wednesday in the roof of the
three-storey building. All seven people working inside got out
safely.

Residents in Lyminge were without water on
Wednesday evening as firefighters used every drop to tackle
the fire.

One of the first fire officers on the scene
was section manager Simon Smith.

He said: "The roof was well alight when we got
here and spread down through the rest of the building. The main
problem we had in tackling it was the lack of water.

"We called for more appliances and had to
constantly suppress the fire then get more water, then suppress the
fire again."

Crews set up a plastic dam to hold water and
supplies to the village had to be cut.
