Father in car blaze horror 'gathered friends wherever he went'

A 29-year-old man who died when his car burst into flames after a collision in a Kent village has been identified by police.

Duncan Cathcart was killed in his Mini Cooper car on Thursday, February 21, after it was involved in a crash with a Renault Megane at Megrims Hill, Sandhurst, near Hawkhurst.

He came from Lomas Lane, Sandhurst, had a five-year-old daughter, Megan.

In a statement, members of his family said: “Duncan went to school at Claverham, Battle, then studied IT at Eastbourne College.

"After training and a period of service on HMS York in the Royal Navy he worked in IT, eventually setting up his own internet business in 2007.

"He loved cricket and played for Hastings Priory and Sussex youth teams as well as local village teams. At home he was keen on gardening and DIY with the help of his adored daughter Megan, the apple of his eye.

"Duncan was an exceptionally kind, caring and generous young man with great determination to succeed and the ability to make everyone smile and laugh, gathering friends wherever he went.

"He was the very best son, brother, partner, father, grandson and nephew a family could ever wish for.”

The driver of the other car involved in the collision suffered multiple injuries.

Kent Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the cars in the area prior to the incident happening. Anyone with information is asked to contact the witness appeal line on 01622 798538.
