A DARTFORD man is in a critical condition in hospital after the van he was driving was in collision with a lorry on the M2.

The 28-year-old man was one of two people in a Mercedes van which collided with the 40 tonne German-registered lorry. He was taken to Gillingham's Medway Maritime Hospital by Kent Air Ambulance but later transferred to a London hospital.

The crash happened on the London-bound carriageway between junctions three and two near Rochester on Tuesday at about 1.15pm.

A passenger in the van, a 29-year man who is also from Dartford, was taken to hospital where his condition is described as comfortable.

The lorry driver was not hurt. Police are appealing for anyone who saw the crash to contact them on 01622 608141.
