Dozens of charity swimmers rescued from the sea

Margate inshore lifeboat helped local lifeguards assist 80 swimmers back to safety yesterday (Sunday) after they started to get swept out to sea.

They were taking part in a charity swim at Joss Bay in Broadstairs at around 9am when the tide began to rise.

A total of around 90 people had joined the event which was raising money for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).
