Keen biker MP Dr Steve Ladyman took part in the Thundersprint race at Northwich in Cheshire.

The South Thanet MP said: “I have had a passion for motorcycles for more than 40 years and although I no longer ride on the roads when I was given a chance by the Thundersprint organisers to ride in this year’s event I jumped at it. I had a great time.

“On the serious side, taking part gave me another chance to remind today’s bikers to 'save racing for the track.’

“If you want to go fast, take part in events like this one or buy a track day at Brands Hatch. The roads today are too dangerous for high speeds and today’s bikers need to be very, very careful.”

He added: “Thundersprint is thought to be the biggest sporting event in Europe and it is watched by more people than even major football matches and Formula One races.

“It was nerve-racking taking part and my primary objective was to have a good time and complete the course without dropping the bike – it cost more than £80,000 to make. Plus, I didn’t want to see myself on You-Tube having a crash.”
