Attack on woman: appeal to MG driver

AN EARLY morning driver who stopped to help a woman who had been attacked is being asked to come forward by police.

The man, who was driving a black MG sports car, was in the New Road and Gibraltar Hill area of Chatham, between 3am and 4am on Monday morning.

An 18-year-old woman from Chatham had just been threatened and attacked in the Victoria Gardens area of town, but she managed to run away from her attacker. The victim flagged down the passing motorist. He stopped to help and took her home. She was not injured but police say she was in an extremely distressed state.

Det Sgt Anne Lisseman said: "We urgently need to trace the driver of the MG who stopped to help the young woman. We would urge him to contact us as quickly as possible as he may have vital information that can help us with our inquiries."

The victim's attacker is described as a white man about 35, and approximately 5ft 8in. He is of stocky build and bald. He was wearing a black bomber jacket, white trousers and a black flat cap.
