Appeal after street attack

POLICE are appealing for information from the public after a man was attacked in Ramsgate. The 22-year-old victim was in Newington Road with a young woman when a man approached them and asked for a cigarette.

He was refused but continued to pester them and followed them into Chichester Road where he pushed the woman. Her companion pushed him away but the attacker followed them and then pulled the victim to the ground, punched him in the face and headbutted him.

A passer by intervened and the victim was able to get away and seek treatment for his injuries.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the assault that happened at 4.30pm on Wednesday, March 12, including a group of teenagers standing nearby who saw the attack.

The suspect was in his late teens, 5ft 9in tall, slim and wore a blue baseball cap and blue jacket. Telephone Thanet police, 01843 231055 with any information.
