PART of the M20 had to be shut after a vehicle flipped over the central reservation and into oncoming traffic.

Amazingly no-one was seriously injured in the crash which shut the motorway in both directions between Junction 5 at Aylesford and Junction 4 at Larkfield on Tuesday afternoon. Police were alerted by a member of the public at about 1.20pm.

A foreign-registered car travelling London-bound had flipped over the central reservation and come to a halt on its side. It had also hit a lorry at some point.

Police received reports of walking wounded but only one person was thought to have been taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Both carriageways were shut at 1.45pm to allow police and ambulance crews to get through. Both were reopened by 2.30pm, by which time there were miles of tailbacks.

The Kent Air Ambulance was not required at the scene.
