KENT'S brightest new businesses have an opportunity to put themselves forward in a search to find the UK’s best start-up companies.

HSBC Bank has set the challenge, and entries for the Start-Up Stars Awards 2005 must be in before Friday, April 29.

Firms who enter could share £65,000 worth of prizes.

Ian Legg, HSBC’s area director, said: "Kent has a strong tradition of business start-ups and we are calling on the county’s entrepreneurs to share their success stories.

"You don’t have to be running the biggest or fastest growing firm but it should be one others can look to for inspiration.

"For many companies the prizes on offer are not the only rewards. Previous finalists tell us the recognition they receive through success in Start-Up Stars not only generates valuable local publicity, but also boosts staff confidence and enhances credibility with customers and suppliers."

The 10 finalists will share prizes worth £65,000, including £20,000 for the winner and £5,000 for the runner-up. Each finalist will also win consultancy services and software worth £4,000 from Croner Consulting and Intuit.

The winner and runner-up will be announced before an audience of 300 leading businessmen and women on Thursday, October 13, at London’s Savoy Hotel.

Companies must be no more than three years old to be eligible.

Entry forms for the awards are available from HSBC branches, or online at www.ukbusiness.hsbc.com. Businesses can also contact the awards organiser’s office on 0870 902 3333.
