Recycle and save, firms told

COMPANIES with plastics to throw away have been urged to avoid high disposal bills by doing more to recycle waste.

At a workshop run by ReMaDe Kent and Medway, experts told more than 30 representatives of plastics firms, re-processors and other businesses how to make big savings.

Diana Lock, ReMaDe's programme manager, said: "Businesses in Kent and Medway need to be made aware of the many waste plastics recycling

opportunities available to them.

"Kent businesses can reduce disposal costs and the burden of legislative implications as well as enhancing environmental performance if they act now.

"We currently produce in the region of half a million tonnes of plastic

bottles and containers alone in the UK each year.

"By highlighting the numerous applications for recycled plastics we hope to reduce the amount of plastics waste which goes to landfill and open up new markets for development."

More than 30 representatives from plastics manufacturers, re-processing firms and other businesses attended the event.
