Woman rescued after collapsing at home

An elderly woman had to be rescued from her flat after she collapsed.

A crew from Thames-side was called to West Street, Gravesend, at around 7.30am on Wednesday to help paramedics who couldn't get into the premises.

It is believed the patient had collapsed by her front door.

Kent Police cordoned off the footpath while firefighters carefully smashed a first floor window with a hammer to get in.

Speaking at the scene, Red Watch crew manager Dave Mayhew said: "Paramedics were called about half an hour before us but were having difficulty getting to the woman. She was slipping in and out of consciousness. We have gained entry now so paramedics will take over from here."

The woman's condition is not known.
