Travellers settle in car park in Ordnance Road, Gravesend

A group of travellers have settled in a car park outside a primary school in Gravesend.

The six caravans have parked in Ordnance Road, just outside Chantry Community Academy.

Resident Marilyn Lloyd, 51, said: "It says on Facebook they had a warrant to be moved from Cascades today, well they have left Cascades but they've come here.

"At the moment there is about six caravans. The car park is right outside a school and people will need to use it."

The convoy of caravans also has a number of dogs with kennels, one pick up truck and a van were also seen park on the green.

It is believed the travellers are the same cohort moved on after setting up camp in Cascades leisure centre car park in Thong Lane, Gravesend, yesterday.

A total of 10 caravans moved on to an overflow car park at the leisure centre but left after the council gained legal permission to kick them off the site.

Yesterday a council spokesman said: "It is our land and they don’t have permission to be there so the council is seeking the appropriate legal documents to have them removed.

"We are in court this afternoon and if we obtain the order it will be served by tomorrow, although it is quite common for them to disperse just as the court orders arrive.”
