Thousands get the Olympic relay thrill

Thousands of children have run their own version of the Olympic torch relay.

It was linked to the study of 26 countries competing in the Games in London this summer.

Most of the children got an opportunity to run with the torch as it was transported to 26 primary schools by their own mascots.

They wrote their own rap anthems, wore national colours, danced, and played instruments as Olympic fever gripped Gravesham.

They wer joined by one of the real baton runners, 16-year-old Ifield school prefect Matthew Church.

Andrea Kitchener from Take Pride said the relay was one of a number of initiatives across Gravesham on which they were working.

"I think we can call the schools’ Olympic torch relay a success," she said.
