The attempted break-in occurred shortly before 10pm last night.

Police were called to the disturbance but the vehicles which had encroached onto the land had moved on.

A spokesman for the Gravesend club said: "They caused criminal damage to the bollards on the edge of the ground.

"Three of them eventually got on but the guys training yesterday evening stood in front of the rest of them and they couldn't get through."

As the others could not get through, the three that did get in ended up deciding to leave, they added.

The spokesman continued: "The police had to come down because seven lorries, cars and caravans were blocking the road because they couldn't get onto the site so police came down and moved them away.

"We are going to put concrete blocks along the drive in an attempt to prevent further break-ins."

A police spokesman said it was called to disturbance on fields next to a rugby club off Donald Biggs Drive, Gravesend.

"Patrols attended and shortly after 10pm any vehicles which had encroached onto the land had left the scene," they said.
