Man rescued by lifeboat after slipping on ice

A MAN with a suspected broken ankle had to be rescued by Gravesend’s lifeboat today after slipping on ice.

The 47-year-old was working on a crane barge when he fell over on the icy deck.

The RNLI were called at 11.40am to help with the rescue after paramedics realised it would be difficult to get him off the barge due to his injuries.

Duty Helmsman Peter Birthright said: "We got the patient onto the lifeboat and took him to our station on the pier where paramedics met us and he was stretchered off."
