Lucky escape as car smashes into restaurant

WORKERS at Sanchos kebab shop in Milton Road had a lucky escape when a car came crashing into the restaurant at the weekend.

Fortunately, all the staff were behind the serving counter when the vehicle came smashing through the front window at 9.30pm on Saturday.

It hit a table and chairs, sending them flying into the fridge, buckled the window frame and smashed the glass frontage.

But, despite the size of the impact and the potential for a serious injury, surprisingly, no-one was hurt.

Huseyin Yalsin, who has owned the shop for more than seven years, was one of four standing behind the counter when it struck.

He said it sounded like an earthquake when the white car smashed through the window, leaving glass and rubble in its wake.

He said: “God knows what happened. Luckily there were no customers and nobody was walking outside at the time.

“Nobody was injured, including the driver, and that’s the most important thing.”

The shop was cordoned off by police after the incident but Mr Yalsin, 32, was able to open up again on Monday and is now running the business as usual.

Accident

He added: “We are waiting for the insurance to replace the shop front.”

It is unclear why the car left the road but police are treating it as an accident and no one has been arrested.

It is believed that they are trying to trace another car in relation to the incident.
