Hundreds without power

More than 100 homes in New Barn and Longfield are still thought to be without power after a fault on Sunday night.

According to EDF Energy a fault on an overhead electricity line led to an 'interruption to power supplies' in north Kent at 7.48pm Sunday evening.

The fault is said to have affected 'several thousand customers.'

The company said its engineers worked through the night to restore power to the majority by 2am Monday.

By Monday lunchtime a further 270 customers had their power restored.

Leaving 140 homes still without electricity.

A spokesman for EDF said: "We appreciate how difficult it is to lose power, especially in these weather conditions. We apologise for the inconvenience caused."

The company says it is contacting those known vulnerable customers on its 'Priority Service Register' to check on their situation and to reassure them that supplies will be restored as soon as possible.

Customers can telephone EDF Energy Networks' free power helpline for updates. The number is 0800 783 8866.
