Firefighters tackle blaze at electrical substation close to the Folkestone Academy in Park Farm Road

Fire crews have been tackling a blaze close to two schools.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) sent four fire engines to an electrical substation in Park Farm Road, Folkestone.

The fire, which is understood to have started at around 2.30pm, spread to a number of surrounding trees.

Smoke could be seen coming from the site, which is close to both the Folkestone Academy and The Beacon school.

A spokesman for KFRS said no casualties had been reported.

The road was closed while the fire was put out and had reopened by 7.20pm.

At 9pm, a fire service spokesman said: "Fire crews have worked closely with partner agencies including Kent Police, UK Power Networks and the Environment Agency to deal with the incident, with main firefighting operations complete at 8.08pm.

"One fire engine and crew remain in attendance to ensure public safety while final measures are taken to make the scene safe."
