A historic high street pub remains up for sale – 15 months after it shut its doors for the final time.

The Globe Inn, in Hythe, has been reduced in price from £325,000 to 275,000 after it was first put on the market in August 2023.

The site is located at the western end of the high street, close to the A259 and has been re-listed on Rightmove with agents Christie & Co.

It has been described as an opportunity for “a well-placed freehouse, restaurant or conversion to a number of alternative uses, including retail or residential”.

Shepherd Neame announced it was closing down last, claiming it "no longer fit business needs" for the brewery.

The site includes a courtyard garden, three bedrooms and a dining area.

It previously traded seven days a week with the benefit of a late licence on Friday and Saturday to 1.30am and live music.

Punters often enjoyed live music and events on Saturday nights and expressed their sadness at the closure last year.

One said: "This is so sad. It's the only place in Hythe that had live bands."

Another said: "Another pub closing. It seems the great British pub culture is going to be a thing of the past. Such a shame."

The pub also won the Shepherd Neame ‘Beer Hero’ prize in 2016.

Elsewhere in the town, new owners of the long-empty Dukes Head in Dymchurch Road say the former boozer could open as a restaurant this year.

As well as this, bosses at the hugely popular microbar, Unit 1, say they will be forced to close if they are unable to keep their outdoor seating.

Retrospective plans have been submitted for Unit 1, located next to the Royal Military Canal, to continue serving food and drink in the space at the front of the venue.
