Armed police officers descended on Folkestone harbour this morning.
Officers were sent to the area at around 5.30am after they received a report a man was in possession of a firearm.
But after carrying out a sweep of the area, no firearm was located.
A police spokesman confirmed no offences were reported and the officers were stood down.
Residents reported seeing a large police presence in the area around the Grand Burstin Hotel.
