Police launch investigation following thefts at four Folkestone shops over the weekend

An investigation has been launched following a spate of burglaries and vandalism in Folkestone over the weekend.

Four businesses were targeted by thieves who broke in, stole cash and caused damage to the buildings.

The first incident happened between 5pm on Friday and 5pm on Saturday at a tile shop in Cheriton Road.

Around £80 in cash was stolen in the incident.

A charity shop also suffered a break-in at around 4.40am on Saturday. Luckily nothing was taken from the shop.

Staff at a bookmakers in Cheriton Road discovered a paving slab had been thrown through the window of the shop on Saturday morning.

Again, nothing was taken.

And a hairdressers in West Terrace lost £80 when thieves broke into their property between 4.45pm on Saturday and 8.20am on Sunday.

Detectives are now reviewing CCTV of the area in a bid to catch the culprits.

They are also appealing for information from any witnesses.

Inspector Andy Brittenden of Kent Police said: "We do not underestimate the impact that a burglary can have on a business.

"It is not just about the items stolen, the time and cost to repair the damage caused can result in further losses.

"We would recommend that staff be on their guard and report suspicious activity to us.

"It is also advisable to regularly check that CCTV and alarm systems are working properly.

"Expensive goods should be removed from window displays overnight and keep as little cash as possible on the premises.

"If anyone has any information that may help detectives investigating the incidents from the weekend, please contact us."
