Whites still keeping clean sheets

RICHARD LANGLEY: changed the formation away from home
RICHARD LANGLEY: changed the formation away from home

DOVER will go all out for another three points against Grantham in the Dr Martens League, premier division, at Crabble on Saturday buoyed by three away wins in succession and a midweek home cup victory.

Two of those away wins were in cup competitions, but their first success on the road in the league this season, against Dorchester last Saturday, has boosted self-belief as well as their points tally.

Whites, so prone to leaking goals this season, have turned round their defensive fortunes with three clean sheets on the spin ahead of Tuesday’s 4-1 Dr Martens League Cup win over Chatham at Crabble.

Manager Richard Langley has switched to a 4-5-1 formation away from home and said: "We did exceptionally well. We were more resolute and more like the old Dover. We've got the results away from home now - and we haven't been up against it in any of the games."

With half their league fixtures now played, Whites have just 24 points from 21 games and need to show a significant improvement in the second half of the campaign if they are to make Conference 2 next season.

Langley is likely to opt for a 3-5-2 formation for home fixtures and with players steadily returning from injury has a growing pool to choose the team from.

Andy Arnott is coming back from his calf injury while Mark Patterson, still struggling with glandular fever, is hoping to play again soon.

Nicky Humphrey's rehabilitation from long term injury continued with a 90 minute run out for the reserves on Saturday, but he will not be rushed back into first team action.

Deputy keeper Dave Wietecha is meanwhile around two weeks away from a comeback in the reserves and Craig Cloke is also recovering well from his groin injury.

Langley is hoping to secure extensions to the loan spells of Jimmy Jackson and Andy Crofts, subject to the injury situations at Dagenham and Gillingham respectively.
